Mike Mercury

Directing in Middle School

Mike started performing at just eight years old. He wrote and directed his school’s Christmas play at the tender age of ten. It was a rather grim tale about Santa Claus being hijacked on an airplane, and the cancellation of the joyous holiday. The play was later made into a movie of the week! In addition, he won his middle school’s coveted “Actor Of The Year” award for his work in several stage productions. Subsequently, this upset the heavily favored eighth grader, Scott Herkert.

High School

However, Mike was shunned by a narrow-minded and elitist theater department in High School. As a result, he concentrated on music. He played drums and percussion in band, and the kazoo in the back row of geometry class. He got an “F” in bowling his senior year. It was spring, he was in love and he never showed up! This too was made a movie of the week.

College

Later, Mike attended college and became a star in the community theater scene. He gave commanding performances in everything from serious dramas, to high comedy, to musical operettas. Mike headed to Los Angeles in 1987, armed with just his sizzling array of talents, and his wealth of experience to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a MOVIE STAR!

Improv

He did not become a movie star. Nevertheless, he accomplished many other notable things. Mike joined an improvisational training and performance group called “L.A. Connection.” He formed his own Improv group, “High Adventure,” after a year with his previous group. They quickly became a favorite act at the world renowned Comedy Store after passing an audition for Mitzi Shore. They appeared weekly (and sometimes weakly) opening for Louie Anderson, Robin Williams, Roseanne Barr, Sam Kinison and Andrew “Dice” Clay, just to namedrop a few.

Back to Dairyland

The Writer’s strike virtually shut down the entire industry in the spring on 1988. Unfortunately, Mike was laid off at his job as a Production Assistant from the not-even-close-to-being-a-hit Disney show, “Videopolis.” He returned home to America’s Dairyland, as he was broke, bitter and craving cheese.

Successful Talent

Fortunately, he was welcomed home with open arms. (Mostly small caliber handguns). In fact, he was asked to play the lead in a production of an original political satire called “Election Rejection: How I Flunked Out of the Electoral College”. The show was produced at the renowned “Ark” theater. After a successful run in which critics and audiences alike raved about his performance, he was hired as a permanent act at the Piccadilly Comedy Pub. There, he finally put all his talents to use. Today they call the show “Hilarious, Dynamic and totally entertaining!” (Wisconsin State Journal)

An Audience Favorite

Mercury is an audience favorite and headlines at comedy clubs all across America. He works primarily in the Corporate market. In conclusion, his likable persona, quick wit, and clean and clever observational material, make him a much-sought-after performer!
